Two changes to the ASIC checks in BPSi Verify: company Quick Checks now return the full company extract instead of a summary, and there is a new Quick Check for ASIC's register of banned and disqualified people.
The full ASIC company extract
ASIC company Quick Checks now give you the complete extract, laid out in the same order as an ASIC extract, both on screen and in the PDF you keep for your file.
- Organisation details: name, ACN, ABN, status, company type and class, registration and review dates.
- Addresses: registered office, principal place of business and contact address, each with its start date.
- Officeholders: directors and secretaries, with date and place of birth, address, appointment date and ASIC document number.
- Shares and members: the share structure and each member's holding.
- Documents: the documents lodged with ASIC, with dates and document numbers.
Where the extract records nothing for a section, it says "None recorded"; where the information isn't part of that extract, it says "Not provided in this extract" — so you can tell the difference.
An insolvency line for each officeholder
Under each officeholder you'll see whether the data source reports a record on the personal insolvency register:
- No matching record reported by the data source — shown in grey. This is not a full insolvency index search.
- An insolvency alert — shown in amber. Details are available on request from BPSI support.
For your records
Every extract shows ASIC's reference number and the date of the extract, and the original extract document is available on request. A short source note at the end records where the information came from.
Which checks
- ASIC on file uses the most recent copy our data partner holds — the extract date shows how current it is.
- ASIC direct retrieves a fresh extract from ASIC.
The change applies to every new ASIC on file or ASIC direct Quick Check. Checks run before 9 October keep their original summary.
New Quick Check: banned and disqualified persons
ASIC banned & disqualified searches ASIC's register of people who have been banned or disqualified — for example from managing companies, or from providing financial services or credit. It costs 2 tokens and sits under Quick Check → Public records — people.
How it works
- Enter the person's given and family name, and their middle name if you have it. You can add a state and postcode — they move a candidate up the list and flag it, but never hide one.
- ASIC's register holds no date of birth, so the check cannot confirm identity. It shows the names on the register that are similar to the one you searched, each labelled Close name or Similar name, with the address, the type of ban or disqualification, its dates and ASIC's document number.
- A Similar name can still be the person you searched — if a middle name was left out, the person usually appears as a Similar name. Review every candidate shown.
Recording your decision
A compliance officer or admin marks the result: either none of the candidates is the person (a name collision), or this is the person searched, with a reason. The decision is recorded with who made it and when, and the report can be downloaded once the result is marked. Your Quick Checks list shows each check as To review, Cleared, On register or No similar name.
What it does not catch
- nicknames, initials only, or very different spellings of a name;
- maiden or married names;
- anyone not on this register — including people automatically disqualified because they are bankrupt, which ASIC does not record here.
Where the data comes from
ASIC's Banned and Disqualified Persons register, published by ASIC as open data on data.gov.au and refreshed weekly. Each result shows the extract date it searched.
Good to know
This is a standalone check. It is not customer due diligence on its own, it is not linked to any client file, and it does not change any risk rating. Use it where it suits your own process.
